The Vet is a nationwide chain of vet surgeries, offering affordable healthcare to pets and their owners across the UK. The dream to provide this service quickly turned to reality, so they approached Rocket Projects to complete a design and build at their first site in Bristol. After the immediate success of that project, we then began the national roll out to five other sites in Southampton, Nottingham, Mitcham, Waltham Forest and Liverpool.
These projects not only reflect our ability to work across the country, but also how we can adapt to new challenges. Working in a medical environment means there are lots of extra things to think about e.g. waste disposal, hygiene and water disposal. In addition, our team needed to find clever solutions to make life easier for the dedicated nurses and surgeons. For example, we fitted windows between the surgery rooms with glass shelves for equipment, meaning both rooms can access everything they need.
We were able to liaise with several organisations, including the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and a Radiation Protection Adviser. The RCVS regulates vets in the UK, and the RPA regulates use of radiation e.g. X-ray machines. We also had contact with local water authorities regarding disposal and regulations. This resulted in our projects always being up to practice standards.
Once the projects have been handed over to the client, we continue to work with them, offering maintenance, servicing and management of the sites.
The graphics for the exterior and reception areas are simple silhouette designs, that are eye-catching and versatile and encapsulate what The Vet offers. They also took care of the space plan drawings and elevations for the project, as well as drawings to be included in the local authority planning application and the landlord’s licence to alter.
